Annual photography contest at Leeds University

June 21, 2009

A recent photography competition at Leeds University revealed some stunning photographs taken by students currently studying photography in Leeds. The ‘Eye on Asia’ photography competition has been an annual event at the university for over 10 years and there was certainly no disappointment with the work that was entered this year. Level 2 students in Eastern Asian Studies were running this competition and 264 entries were received from students of all subjects.

The photography was to display the experiences and knowledge of those who have traveled to this part of the world and to share with others what these students had seen, learned and enjoyed. The winning photograph was of Huangshan, the Yellow Mountain, which is located in Anhui, China. The photographer is Ben Wainwright who is studying Chinese/English studies and his prize was an Olympus waterproof camera.

Not only was this competition a success because of the wide variety of beautiful photographs that were received and displayed, but also because of the £320 that was raised and donated to the Starfish Orphanage in Xi’an, China. The China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language sponsored this event.

Commercial photography in Leeds is a thriving business and successful commercial photographers produce exceptional shots for companies and events like this.
