Basic lighting equipment used in commercial photography

October 12, 2009

Commercial photographers need to consistently create brilliant photographs in order for the photographs to work effectively as part of an advertising campaign. In order to take these shots, a number of factors must be considered and the lighting used in commercial photography is one of the key issues for consideration.

Lighting equipment is of great significance because of the wide range of varying shots it allows the photographer to take. There are some basic pieces of lighting equipment that are often used by commercial photographers in order to create perfectly lit commercial photographs.

Bare bulbs can be useful for portrait shots and with light boxes because they allow the light to go everywhere and anywhere. However, it is more common for a diffuser or reflector to be used in commercial photography. These tools can be brilliant when it is necessary for light to be transferred and bounced to different areas in a photograph. Large reflectors are particularly useful in commercial photography.

Umbrellas are another piece of photography equipment that many commercial photographers choose to use. Umbrellas allow light to be softened and shared over a large area and this can be useful in commercial photography.

Grid spots can also be beneficial. Grid spots stop light from spreading over an area and instead focus the light in just one concentrated space. When using grid spots a spot light effect can be created.

These are just a few basic pieces of lighting equipment that are used by commercial photographers. Commercial photographers in Leeds, London and other towns and cities in the UK will use basic and also complex lighting equipment in order to produce photographs with perfect lighting. The right lighting equipment combined with the other specialist equipment and techniques commercial photographers use means that businesses looking for superb photographs will not be disappointed if a qualified and experienced commercial photographer is chosen.
