Food photography – pictures good enough to eat
May 3, 2010
Food is a highly photogenic medium for still life photography, but how exactly does the photographer make the grilled vegetables look so tempting? How can that cupcake be captured so perfectly? With knowledge, practice and attractive food subjects, that’s how. The food photographer takes pictures that really do look good enough to eat.
There are many creative and straightforward ideas that can take food photography to the next level.
Sometimes, when taking a photograph a simple alteration of viewpoint can mean the difference between the boring and the brilliant. For example, before taking your photograph consider the composition from various angles, including above and below. Remember that these different viewpoints will provide different backgrounds. Decide which one is most suitable, and complements your subject in the best way, and take your photo.
One of the easiest and most effective ways to improve your photographs is to ensure your composition is well lit. Use flash if you need too but ideally, photograph your subject next to a large, naturally lit window. Alternatively try to eat out during the day and take your photographs then.
Time is of the essence when photographing food, due to the potential for, melting, collapse or even colour change, It is therefore best to prepare your equipment beforehand.
From London to Leeds, food photographers can be found nationwide. With its attractive textures, appetizing colours and interesting shapes, food is always a popular medium for photographers. By using a professional commercial food photographer, mouth-watering results can be achieved.
