Google’s commercial photography on UK places of interest

August 24, 2009

Google Street View service is proving highly popular with many people because they enjoy the information it provides and find it useful. Google Street View allows users to view particular areas in certain countries in varying panoramic views. It was initially only major cities included in this service but it has expanded further and further with more and more locations now included. The panoramic photography is successfully informing and displaying information about these areas.  The photographs can give great detail and really help the users learn and explore the area on show. Google has now decided to take this one step further and is also adding photographs of different locations of significance throughout the UK.

A very unique photography tricycle has been created for this purpose. The tricycle has three wheels and weighs an impressive 18 stone. It carries the necessary commercial photography equipment in order to capture top quality and detailed photographs for use with the service.

The tricycle is set to visit numerous different locations in the UK including Leeds, London and Newcastle to name just a few. It will capture photographs of popular places of interest such as Stonehenge, Bamburgh Castle, The Angel of the North, Loch Ness and many more UK attractions that receive much interest from tourists and residents.

After the tricycle completes this tour of the best and most interesting places to visit in the UK, the photography and information will feature on the Street View service provided by Google Maps. It is likely that it will take around six months for the information to be available but is a great example of innovative, commercial photography.
