International photography competition won by eleven year old boy

November 26, 2009

The National Geographic recently carried out a photography competition and the winners have been revealed. There were eight winning photographers and one of these winners is eleven year old Alexander Marttunen from Vantaa. It was Alexander’s photograph titled ‘Spirit of the Bottle’ that caught the eye of the judges and impressed them. The winning photograph features a stunning image of a hermit crab that has chosen to use a piece of bottle that has been carelessly thrown away as its home.

The judges found Alexander’s photograph of the hermit crab particularly compelling because they believe it highlights how animals are adapting to the world we all live in as it changes. Alexander had chosen to photograph this crab because he was impressed with how this crab had used garbage so cleverly.

The prize for Alexander and the other seven photography competition winners is a trip to Washington D.C and a tour around the headquarters of National Geographic. It was the aim of this competition to get young people considering different animals and the habitats within which they live and to capture aspects of their lives through photography.

If you need photographs of animals, products or lifestyle images but do not personally have the equipment or skills to take such shots, it can be hugely advantageous to work with a commercial photographer in order to obtain high quality photographs.

A commercial photographer in Leeds, Manchester or other towns and cities within the UK will be able to take outstanding photographs for your personal or business use.
