Behind the shot – by Tony Lendill, Creative Director

Pack shot Photography in Leeds
This looks like simple Pack shot photography however technically there is a lot to it as I’ll explain below:
The product is highly reflective with a multitude of contoured reflective surfaces. I need to eliminate unwanted reflections, so I position white boards above, below and to all sides. These are then lit with a honeycombed light that gives a graduated light across the surfaces whilst still retaining the detail.
A separate shot is taken for the blacks which are burnt in and comped together with the original.
The water pour is also a separate shot which is always tricky. The water only pours when it boils, so I need to get rid of the steam and condensation on the product through retouching. Also if the pour goes wrong, I need to start again with a clean glass, and dry product, so I’m very careful to get it one take.
After all shots are comped together, the final stage is retouching. Typically we are working with samples rather than the finished product, and these are never perfect so I remove the imperfections – dust, scratches etc
The shot is cut-out and dropped on a pure white background, and that’s it – perfect product photography!
