Tips for successful catalogue photography
August 30, 2009
The photographs that feature products in a catalogue are of great importance. They are what can really grab the attention of a potential customer and can also give them a lot of information about what is on offer. This is of significant importance when you have products to sell.
Catalogue photography is a specialised area and a catalogue photographer will have the skills, knowledge and experience in order to take creative and effective shots. There are however a few basic tips that can help in the taking of photographs for a catalogue.
In order to really highlight the items that are being photographed, it can be highly effective to use a plain and neutral background. This means that it will likely be the item that draws attention and interest and also that people are less likely to get distracted by the background and something that isn’t going to help this product sell.
It can also be advantageous to photograph just one item at a time if these photos are going to feature in a catalogue. Research has shown that if an item is displayed alone, it is more likely to attract interest.
As with any photography, the equipment used by the photographer is also of significance. It is important to be aware of the capabilities of the camera and what works best in order to take certain types of shots.
These are some basic tips that can be of use in catalogue photography. However, successful commercial photographers working in the big cities such as Leeds and London use these and other skills in order to create effective and successful catalogue photographs.
