Tips on flower photography
July 31, 2009
Flowers are a beautiful part of our natural world and it can often be tempting to photograph them. Whether photographing them for the pleasure of capturing images of a lovely garden or a stunning piece of countryside or photographing them for a professional reason such as catalogue photography or an advertising campaign if you are a commercial photographer, making sure the photograph shows the flowers looking their very best is very important. There are a few tips that can help you do this.
By choosing a plain background to feature in your photograph you will make sure that attention is only drawn to the flower or arrangement and that people are less likely to be distracted by other details.
The position of the camera and how close you are to the flower may depend on the purpose of the photograph but try different angles and use the zoom facility on your camera too. Take photographs from above, below, the side and vary the distance too. This will give you a range of different shots and views of the flower.
When photographing flowers it is also important to consider the lighting in the photograph. Different times of year, different times of day and different weather conditions can create a very different lighting environment. This lighting can affect the feel of the image and how it is perceived.
By considering a few extra details when taking photographs of flowers you are likely to end up with a collection of different and beautiful shots for you to choose from.
