Twiggy – the changing face of fashion turns 60
May 21, 2010
As a professional commercial photographer one of the most challenging skills required, is the ability to capture a subject’s personality in a photograph. As portrait photography is potentially very tricky, professional commercial photographers are highly sought after for this purpose.
Since her heyday in the swinging sixties, talented photographers have snapped the iconic supermodel, Twiggy, many a time.
Twiggy was first introduced to the public eye by creative photographer Barry Layton, in 1966, and the model is now celebrating her 60th Birthday with a photography exhibition, including 20 photographs of her, at London’s National Portrait Gallery.
The exhibition will include work by leading professional photographers from Barry Layton to present day, which, in all likelihood, will feature photographs taken with both film and digital cameras, reflecting recent developments in the world of fashion photography.
In her own words Twiggy has said:
“It’s really interesting to see how fashion photography and portraiture have evolved throughout my career.”
In the 1960’s a combination of creative photographers in Leeds and the infamous mini skirt, thrust the city to the forefront of the British fashion industry, where it has remained as a style capital in the UK, hot on the fashionable heels of London.
Nowadays, commercial photographers who can take fantastic shots, are more affordable than ever. Meanwhile, girls and young women all around the world continue to admire Twiggy and emulate her 1960’s look, with her elfin crop and long dark eyelashes, whilst commercial photographers abound to capture the perfect portrait photograph.
